Chidera Eggerue, 23, also known as The Slumflower, started this revolutionary movement, to break down the walls of strict unrealistic beauty standards created by society. These standards are physically impossible for women to uphold without the help of cosmetic surgery. Biological forces and mother nature work overtime, Women are going to get stretch marks, boobs are going to sag, skin is going to wrinkle, and we won’t look young forever. The Slumflower used to hate her drooping breasts, she was a fast developer during her early youth and growing up she dreamed of the time when she could get a boob job. Now she is helping other women feel at one with their bodies, pushing the rhetoric for self-love, she’s become an inspiration for many (including myself). Saggy boobs matter is a movement Chidera started online, as a follower of The Slumflower for many years now, I have been able to see the movement come to life. She began this movement to shed light on the unrealistic expectations placed on women’s bodies specifically boobs, a rhetoric created by men. “Through creating #SaggyBoobsMatter, I have been able to help women articulate their own body image hang-ups”. Patriarchy has taught women that you’re not a woman unless you fit the image created by men in this society, you’re undesirable if you are placed anywhere outside the box. The images presented to us in the media don’t help either, we are bombarded with the constant representation of the perfect woman, when we flick through magazines, role through the endless posts on social media and advertisements. what are we presented with? The flawless, blemish- who?, long sleek hair, body goals, perky boob no qualms in the world woman. This results in the underestimation of the diverse nature of women today. According to The Slumflower
“Saggy boobs are underrepresented. Being underrepresented makes you feel alien to society. This fosters insecurity in people who don’t have the mental strength to see value in themselves beyond other people’s standards.”
As The Slumflowers posts, tweets and images became viral, and she continued to express her viewpoints on the toxicity of society, as she continued to share views on feminism, notes to young women, and basically help her follower overcome some problems she has experienced, she received some backlash for her saggy boobs, by keyboard warriors many of them being other men and also other women, condemning other women’s bodies in order to make them subconsciously more appealing to the men that oppress them.

“By force, we will all have to learn that the only way to normalise something is to see it repeatedly. So if you have an issue with saggy boobs, you have to ask yourself why a person’s body offends you,”.
Many women have embraced the movement, hash tagging saggy boobs matter, it has given them confidence to go bra less and feel at ease. It has given women the peace at mind that they are not alone, to be alright with the changes their bodies are going through. This is what’s needed, more representation, our bodies are all different and our bodies are all perfect because our bodies are functioning to enable us to live. From Following the Slumflower one thing she’s always said which has stuck with me, is that our bodies were not created by ourselves and therefore we do not need to explain to anybody why we look the way we do. We cannot change our bodies and therefore we need to learn to love our bodies. So, I thank her for all the inspiring messages that she has shared, that I’ve personally been able to take from. Hopefully this blog post proved very useful for others, hopefully if you haven’t already been introduced to the powerhouse that is The Slumflower, that you will get to know her now.
